Job Location: Tamale, Northern, Ghana
Job Type: Contract
Green Gold Farm is developing a carbon offset market to help rural farmers harness the benefits of international carbon markets. This project is being developed with the support of German development finance institution, Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH (GIZ), in its Water and Energy for Food (WFEP/WE4F) program in the form of Integrated Development Partnerships with the Private Sector (iDPPs). This iDPP provides financial and technical support to promising water and energy innovations to support the scaling up of innovations that strengthen the sustainability, resilience and increase the productivity of the global food system.
The WE4F project works together with local private sector innovators to:
- Support the dissemination of innovations (solar technologies, applications, e-mobility, etc.)
- Build entrepreneurial capacity
- Inform end-users and multipliers about innovations
- Improve access to finance for innovators and end-users
- Improving policy conditions for innovations
- Accelerate the exchange of experience at local, regional and global levels
The objective of the iDPP project is to develop a sustainable and scalable business model to produce more food with less resources in Ghana’s Northern Savannah Ecological Zone (NSEZ) via regenerative agriculture practices. The project is based on a pilot soybean and maize farm. It includes the perfection of regenerative agriculture practices to save as much energy and water as possible, the sale of verified carbon credits to harness the benefits of international carbon markets and create an additional cash flow for the implementing company and farmers as well as the establishment of a Regenerative Agriculture Centre of Excellence to disseminate knowledge and share best practices with other farmers.
About Us:
Green Gold Farms (“GGF”) is a Ghana-based agribusiness that combines the production of grains, legumes and pulses. Green Gold Farms was founded with the simple goal of ending the import of key food staples in Ghana while at the same time improving the nation’s balance of payments through agricultural exports. The company officially began operations during the first week of the COVID-induced lockdown in Ghana in April 2020 after two years of research and development. It has since grown to become one of the largest soybean farms in the nation. In the process, the company has created over 400 quality jobs – three quarters of which have gone to women. Green Gold Farms is championing a paradigm shift in Ghana’s corporate code from one built around shareholder primacy and stakeholder capitalism to one of participative capitalism.
